- The Danville Training Institution (DTS) for nurses began as a hospital-based school in November of 1894, graduating the first class of four students in 1896.
- The diploma program was first recognized by the State of Illinois in 1911, the first year the State began keeping track of approval proceedings. When certificates were initially presented in 1937, the program was formally certified by the State.
- In the 1940s, Lakeview Hospital School of Nursing formed a partnership with Illinois Teacher’s College in Charleston, Illinois, which is now known as Eastern Illinois University. Eastern instructors traveled to Danville to teach courses on-site for the students’ convenience.
- In the 1950s, Lakeview Hospital School of Nursing and Danville Junior College, now Danville Area Community College, formed a partnership to teach lower-division general education courses at the community college.
- Lakeview Memorial Hospital School of Nursing enrolled the first female student who was married but widowed with two little children in the 1960s. It was around the same time that the first male student was accepted. Black female students were allowed for the first time in the late 1960s.
- Lakeview’s diploma program was completely certified by the National League for Nursing in 1971.
- Lakeview College of Nursing and Eastern Illinois University developed a contract at the turn of the millennium to offer the Lakeview College of Nursing Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing program to Charleston. In the fall of 2001, students began attending classes on the EIU campus.
- In 2014, the Charleston location underwent an expansion, adding extra classrooms, a computer lab, and faculty offices. Lakeview purchased a health services building from a local dentist to make way for the future expansion of community immunization clinics, health clinics, and additional lab space near the Danville campus. The nursing skills lab at the Danville location was rebuilt in the summer of 2015 to connect basic lab equipment with simulated lab equipment and create more lab storage space.
- For the spring and summer semesters, Lakeview College of Nursing shifted all classes to online learning because of a worldwide epidemic, COVID-19.
