It is no longer news that nursing is by far the hottest courses right now to Study anywhere you are in the World. The statistics of students opting to study Nurse has long shot up because of not only the relevance of the course but for also the way nurses are loved over the world and not to forget the fact that nurses are well paid.
According to Wikipedia, nursing is a profession within the health care sector focused on the care of individuals, families, and communities so they may attain, maintain, or recover optimal health and quality of life.
Likewise, they take on vital roles of education, assessing situations, as support. Nurses may be differentiated from other health care providers by their approach to patient care, training, and scope of practice.
Nurses practice in many specialties with differing levels of prescription authority. Nurses comprise the largest component of most healthcare environments; but there is evidence of international shortages of qualified nurses.
Many nurses provide care within the ordering scope of physicians, and this traditional role has shaped the public image of nurses as care providers. Nurse practitioners are nurses with a graduate degree in advanced practice nursing.
They are however permitted by most jurisdictions to practice independently in a variety of settings. Since the postwar period, nurse education has undergone a process of diversification towards advanced and specialized credentials, and many of the traditional regulations and provider roles are changing.
Nurses develop a plan of care, working collaboratively with physicians, therapists, the patient, the patient’s family, and other team members that focuses on treating illness to improve quality of life.
In the United Kingdom and the United States, clinical nurse specialists and nurse practitioners, diagnose health problems and prescribe the correct medications and other therapies, depending on particular state regulations.
Nurses may help coordinate the patient care performed by other members of a multidisciplinary health care team such as therapists, medical practitioners, and dietitians. Nurses provide care both interdependently, for example, with physicians, and independently as nursing professionals. In addition to providing care and support, nurses educate the public, and promote health and wellness
Kaiser Permanente Northwest founded the Health Care Career Scholarship Program in 2008 to help students in Oregon and Southwest Washington achieve their dreams of becoming health care professionals. Since then, Kaiser Permanente has awarded more than $5.2 million in scholarships in the Northwest.
Scholarships were awarded annually to qualified seniors at 140 public high schools in the Northwest service area of Kaiser Permanente, which spans from north of Longview, Washington, to Eugene, Oregon.
Of the more than 1,511 students in the Northwest who have received more than 1,780 Kaiser Permanente Northwest Health Care Career Scholarships since the program’s inaugural year (2008 to 2009):
- 80% are first-generation college-bound students
- 91% are from diverse backgrounds
- 70% are economically disadvantaged
- 72% are bilingual
Nonrenewable scholarships in the amounts of $5,000 and $10,000 were awarded to the most qualified applicants from across all eligible high schools and returning scholars.
The scholarship program facilitated the entrance of diverse and/or economically or socially disadvantaged students into college and the health care professions.
Applications were evaluated based on the following criteria, with the majority of the evaluation focused on nonacademic information:
- Academic achievement
- Engagement in activities (extracurricular, community service, and/or work)
- Commitment to a career in health care
- Character qualities
- Diversity characteristics
- Economic and/or social disadvantage
2021 recipients
Scholarships totaling $550,000 were awarded to 69 high school seniors and 14 college students in 2021. Recipients were celebrated virtually through a recognition video.
For the past 13 years, we have been privileged to be a part of the community’s educational journey. Through the Kaiser Permanente Northwest Health Care Career Scholarship Program we have provided over $4.2 million dollars in scholarships; supporting over 1,400 students. Following the 2021 scholarship cycle, we have made the difficult decision to sunset this scholarship program.
Although our regional program has concluded, we look forward to supporting students through our partnerships with United Negro College Fund and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund. Scholarships will open spring 2022 and information will be shared with high school teachers and counselors at a later date.
