The conversion of up to 40% of your NSFAS study loan into a bursary, which you do not have to return, is conditional on your academic success.

Required Documents

Attach the most recent evidence of income for PARENTS/GUARDIANS/SPOUSES OR ANY OTHER MEMBER OF THE HOUSEHOLD WHO WORKS (salary-/pension slips not older than three months). Determining the family’s financial situation is quite important. If you do not get a salary/pension slip, PROOF OF INCOME (by way of a sworn declaration and six months’ bank statements, not older than three months) must be included.
If your MOTHER/GUARDIAN/SPOUSE IS A HOUSEWIFE, you must attach a sworn declaration (not older than three months).

If your PARENT(S)/GUARDIAN(S)/SPOUSE or any other member of the household is a PENSIONER, a certified copy of his/her PENSION SLIP (not older than three months) must be attached.
If your PARENT(S)/GUARDIAN(S)/SPOUSE is unemployed, you must attach a sworn declaration (not older than three months). A WRITTEN CONFIRMATION FROM A COMMUNITY LEADER, such as a pastor, attorney, or social worker, must also be attached.

If your PARENTS are SEPARATED but not officially divorced, one of the parents must produce a sworn statement (not older than three months) in this respect, as well as PROOF OF INCOME (not older than three months) from BOTH PARENTS.

If your PARENTS are LEGALLY DIVORCED, a certified copy of the DIVORCE ORDER must be attached. BOTH PARENTS’ PROOF OF INCOME (not older than three months) must be attached.
A CERTIFIED COPY/COPIES OF THE DEATH CERTIFICATE(S) must be attached if the PARENTS are DECEASED.

The most recent (not older than one year) TAX ASSESSMENT (IT34) AND most recent FINANCIAL STATEMENTS of the farm/business must be provided in the case of FARMERS and BUSINESSES.
Attach PROOF OF INCOME as well as proof of LIQUIDATION- AND/OR ADMINISTRATION ORDER if your parents’ assets were LIQUIDATED and/or put UNDER ADMINISTRATION.

Attach a copy of the COURT ORDER or a written statement from the guardian if you are under GUARDIANSHIP (s).

GRANDPARENTS OR OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS CANNOT SERVE AS GUARDIANS IF THE BIOLOGICAL PARENTS ARE ALIVE UNLESS A COURT ORDER HAS BEEN ISSUED (A CERTIFIED COPY OF THE COURT ORDER MUST BE ATTACHED).
Attach copies of the APPLICANT’S AND ALL MEMBERS OF THE HOUSEHOLD’S IDENTITY DOCUMENTS that have been confirmed on the same side as the image and not on the backside.
