Checklist for Documents:

Please complete all sections of the application form and attach all supporting papers in order for your application to be processed.

In order for your application to be completed, you must write your identification number on every page of all of your supporting documents. Without an ID number, NSFAS will be unable to process applications.

Please include the following documents as attachments:

A certified copy of your identification document is required. You must present a certified copy of your unabridged birth certificate if you are under the age of 16 and do not have a green bar-coded ID or smart ID card.

Each household member, including parents or legal guardians, must have a certified copy of their identity document.

Copy of your most recent academic transcript or exam results, certified. You do not need to submit this if you are currently in Grade 12.
If you have been exempted from paying school fees, please produce a letter from the school confirming your exemption to NSFAS.

For each parent, or anyone who supports you, or your guardian, or yourself if you are employed, a certified or official copy of a recent payslip, letter of employment, not older than three months. This applies to all types of jobs or sources of money for all members of the family.

This includes any income from SASSA grants, the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), or any lump-sum or monthly payments of retirement, life, disability, or other benefits.

Please submit a copy of an official pension slip or bank statement indicating pension payment if your parents, the person who supports you, or your legal guardian are retired.

If your parents, your legal guardian, or someone who supports you works as an informal trader, please produce an affidavit signed by them to substantiate this job.
Please send a certified copy of either of your parents’ death certificates if one of them is deceased.

Please supply a certified copy of your parents’ divorce decree if your parents are divorced.

Please supply an affidavit detailing why one or both of your parents do not live at home.

Please supply an affidavit indicating why you are supported by someone who is not your parent or legal guardian.

If any of your family members are getting a social grant and are also contributing, a certified copy of an SASSA letter is required.

– A pay stub, a statement of employment, or a pension stub showing the income of the parents and/or guardians (SASSA slips are not acceptable). SASSA should not be added as a requirement.
