NSFAS helps students from low-income and working-class households gain access to and succeed in higher education and training.

Criteria for Qualification

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) bursary scheme is only open to South African nationals.

A student must be enrolled in or planning to enroll in a TVET college.

Applicants will be considered for financing if their combined total family income is less than R350,000 per year.

Returning students (those who studied before 2018) will be eligible if their combined gross family income is less than R122,000 per year.

Nsfas Opening Date

Nsfas Online Application Opens from the 1st of September and closes on November 30.

BURSARY APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

2 certified copies of parent/guardian ID or death certificates 4 certified copies of student ID
1 certified copy of each dependent’s identification/birth certificate
1 certified copy of the parent’s or guardian’s most recent pay stub, grant stub, or affidavit as proof of income
1 certified copy of the highest degree
1 proof of address
An applicant for a bursary submitted an application or motivational letter.

The Bursary covers the following:

A place to stay in a city.
In a peri-urban area, you can stay.
In a rural setting, you’ll be able to stay.
Transportation (if you reside up to 40 km from the institution)
Allowance for incidental or personal care.
Registration.
Tuition.
Claims for Assistive Devices and Human Support must be submitted directly to the college’s Student Support Services/Financial Aid office by funded students with disabilities.

A birth certificate or your South African ID ( if you do not have a green bar-coded ID or smart ID card)
— Identification of parents and/or guardians, as well as a death certificate if applicable. Pay stubs/letters of employment/pension stubs stating income of parents and/or guardians (SASSA slips are not necessary and SASSA should not be included as household income)
