Federal College of Education (Technical) Umunze in Anambra State is one of the eight (8) colleges of Education (Technical) established by Decree No. 4 of 14th march, 1986. Perhaps its take off would have been delayed further if not for two principal personages who literarily induced the birth of the college

A College established by Decree No. 4 of 14th March 1989, which its academic activities took off at the temporary site in May 1990, on the philosophy to pursue and reflect excellence in the production of pre-vocational and vocational teachers and in the furtherance of knowledge and improvement of the practice thereof. To serve as a catalyst towards creating a centre of academic excellence in research, science and education for the much desired technological advancement in Nigeria.

We offer courses on General Education, Vocational Technical Education, Science Education and Languages on both NCE and Degree Programmes. We run our degree courses in affiliation with Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State

The College presently located in Umunze, Headquarters of Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State. Presently academic work is going on both at the temporary and permanent sites.

HISTORY OF THE COLLEGE DEGREE PROGRAMME

The degree programme in affiliation with Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, for the award of Bachelors Degree in Education took off in the 2011/2012 academic session with 901 students admitted under the direct entry and UTME admission platforms.

The programme is full time and took off with the following courses:

The Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation team of 2011 granted full accreditation to all the programmes in the light of the massive human and material infrastructure deployed for the programme. In the 2014/2015 academic session, Physics and Computer Education were added to the programme, bringing it to a total of thirteen (13) courses; with a current student population of one thousand, seven hundred and nine (1709) distributed along the course areas.

Entry Requirements

UTME: Candidates who sat for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and scored 180 and above with credit passes in English Language Mathematics and any other three (3) subjects relevant to the course of study, are requested to get in touch with Federal College of Education (Technical) Umunze for admission, whether or not they made the College any of their choice Institution.

DIRECT ENTRY: Possession of NCE. OND, Diploma (UNIZIK only) in relevant areas in addition to O’level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics and any other three (3) subjects relevant to the course of study.

Duration

Regular is three (3) years for direct entry and four (4) years for UMTE/JAMB entry.

CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAMME (CEP)

The programme, Distant Learning Programme started in year 2000 in Isuochi Commercial School, Isuochi Abia State with Rev Father (Dr.) Luke N. Anameze as the pioneer coordinator with a total number of 108 students and six (6) lecturers.

The programme started initially with three departments namely:

The Distant Learning Programme was later changed to Continuing Education Programme and over the years the number of departments, students and lecturers has increased to eight (8) departments with four hundred and fifty three (453) students, with sixty six (66) lecturers.

The CEP Programme is four (4) year designed to help students obtain the Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE). The Programme runs only on Saturdays, both lectures and examinations programme which allows those currently working to upgrade their academic qualifications while keeping their jobs. The programme is also designed to run a three (3) terms in an academic session.

Entry Qualifications

Courses Offered In Federal College of Education (Technical), Umunze (FCET Umunze) | NCE Programme

Requirement is the same as in regular programme. For NCE must possess the SSCE/WASC/GCE/O’Level passes in 5 subjects including English Language and Mathematics.

Three (3) of which must be at credit level at the same sitting or 4 credits at two sittings. At least, two of the credits must be relevant to the course the candidate wishes to offer.

Candidates with Grade II Teachers Certificate (TCII) with credit or merits in three subjects, two of which must be relevant to the course the candidate wishes to offer, may also apply.

Courses Offered In Federal College of Education (Technical), Umunze (FCET Umunze)| PDE Programme

The PDE is designed specifically for teachers and candidates without teaching qualifications, ranging from National Diploma to Ph.D or their equivalent. The PDE embodies the flexibility, richness in pedagogical content, provision for specialization etc. which have current national and international concerns. A candidate who has successfully undergone the Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) is qualified to pursue Masters Degree in Education (M.Ed)
